Daily Prayer on a Festival Day

Trinity Sunday

Christ in Glory. East Window, Holy Cross Church Ryton

CALL TO WORSHIP, AND OPENING PRAYER

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God almighty:

Come, let us worship.

Give praise to the Father almighty,

to his Son, Jesus Christ, the Lord,

to the Spirit who dwells in our hearts,

both now and for ever. Amen.

Blessed are you, O Lord our God,

you have shone in our hearts

to give the light of the knowledge of your glory

in the face of Jesus Christ.

   [a few words of praise and adoration may be said here]

May Christ's life be made visible in us

as we honour him as Lord.

Blessed be God for ever!

PSALM, AND SCRIPTURE SONG

Psalm 84

How lovely is your dwelling place,
    O Lord of hosts!
My soul longs, indeed it faints
   for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh sing for joy
   to the living God.

Even the sparrow finds a home,
   and the swallow a nest for herself,
   where she may lay her young,
at your altars, O Lord of hosts,
   my King and my God.
Happy are those who live in your house,
   ever singing your praise.

Happy are those whose strength is in you,
   in whose heart are the highways to Zion.
As they go through the valley of Baca
   they make it a place of springs;
   the early rain also covers it with pools.
They go from strength to strength;
   the God of gods will be seen in Zion.

Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer;
   give ear, O God of Jacob!
Behold our shield, O God;
   look on the face of your anointed.

For a day in your courts is better
   than a thousand elsewhere.
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
   than live in the tents of wickedness.
For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
   he bestows favour and honour.
No good thing does the Lord withhold
   from those who walk uprightly.
Lord of hosts,
   happy is everyone who trusts in you.

Give praise to the Father almighty,

to his Son, Jesus Christ, the Lord,

to the Spirit who dwells in our hearts,

both now and for ever. Amen.

A Song of the Lamb [Revelation 19.1b, 5b, 6b-7, 9b]

Salvation and glory and power

belong to our God

whose judgements are true and just.

Praise our God

all you servants of God,

you who fear him

both small and great.

The Lord our God

the Almighty reigns.

Let us rejoice and exult

and give glory and homage.

The marriage of the Lamb has come

and his bride has made herself ready.

Happy are those who are invited

to the wedding banquet of the Lamb.

To the One who sits on the throne

and to the Lamb

be blessing and honour

and glory and might,

for ever and ever. Amen.

SHORT READING

Mark 1. 9-11

In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove upon him. And a voice came from heaven, 'You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased'.

CANTICLE FOR FESTIVALS: Te Deum Laudamus

We praise you, O God,

we acclaim you as Lord;

all creation worships you,

the Father everlasting.

To you all angels,

all the powers of heaven,

the cherubim and seraphim,

sing in endless praise:

Holy, holy, holy Lord,

God of power and might,

heaven and earth

are full of your glory.

The glorious company of apostles

praise you.

The noble fellowship of prophets

praise you.

The white-robed army of martyrs

praise you.

Throughout the world

the holy Church acclaims you:

Father, of majesty unbounded,

your true and only Son,

worthy of all praise,

the Holy Spirit,

advocate and guide.

You, Christ, are the king of glory,

the eternal Son of the Father.

When you took our flesh to set us free

you humbly chose the Virgin’s womb.                             Paschal candle,

You overcame the sting of death                                    sign of Christ Risen

and opened the kingdom of heaven to all believers.

You are seated at God’s right hand in glory.

We believe that you will come to be our judge.

Come then, Lord, and help your people,

bought with the price of your own blood,

and bring us with your saints to glory everlasting.

THE LORD’S PRAYER,

thanksgiving, petition, intercession

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Save us from the time of trial

and deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours

now and for ever. Amen.

a time for personal prayer and intercession …

… you may include this ‘Prayer for the Earth’:

Good God, your saints in every age

proclaim your glory in the highest heavens

and see your beauty in the smallest of your creatures.

May we, inspired by the depth of their devotion,

see the world in a grain of sand and heaven in a wild flower,

and offer you our lives in praise and service.

… and sum up your own prayers with these responses:

In your glory, Lord, protect us by the power of your name,

that we may be one as you are one.

We are in the world but not of it;

protect us from the evil one.

Give us your word and the full measure of your joy;

sanctify us by your truth.

May your Spirit unite us in the love and glory of Father and Son,

that we may be one that the world may believe.

As you sent your Son into the world,

so send us, to make your glory known.

CONCLUDING PRAYER, AND ENDING

Lord Christ, dwell in our hearts;

that, rooted and grounded in you

we may comprehend with all the saints

what is the breadth and length

and height and depth of your love,

and be filled with all the fullness of God. Amen.

May the God of all grace

who called us to his eternal glory in Christ Jesus,

establish, strengthen and settle us in the faith. Amen.
