THE SEASON OF EASTER

CALL TO WORSHIP, AND OPENING PRAYER
The Lord is risen. Alleluia!
Come, let us worship.
Give praise to the Father almighty,
to his Son, Jesus Christ, the Lord,
to the Spirit who dwells in our hearts,
both now and for ever. Amen.
Blessed and praised are you, God our Father,
for raising Christ our Lord from the dead
and giving us the hope of immortality.

The joy of the resurrection renews the whole world:
a new age has dawned,
the reign of sin is ended,
a broken world is being renewed,
and humanity is once again made whole.
Blessed be God for ever!
PSALM, AND SCRIPTURE SONG
Psalm 111
1 Praise the Lord!
I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart,
in the company of the upright, in the congregation.
2 Great are the works of the Lord,
studied by all who delight in them.
3 Full of honour and majesty is his work,
and his righteousness endures for ever.
4 He has gained renown by his wonderful deeds;
the Lord is gracious and merciful.
5 He provides food for those who fear him;
he is ever mindful of his covenant.
6 He has shown his people the power of his works,
in giving them the heritage of the nations.
7 The works of his hands are faithful and just;
all his precepts are trustworthy.
8 They are established for ever and ever,
to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness.
9 He sent redemption to his people;
he has commanded his covenant for ever.
Holy and awesome is his name.
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
all those who practise it* have a good understanding.

A Song of Faith
[1 Peter 1.3-4, 18-21]
Blessed be the God
and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who in his great mercy
gave us a new birth as his children.
He has raised Jesus Christ from the dead
so that we have a sure hope in him.
We have the promise of an inheritance
that can never be spoilt
because it is kept for us in heaven.
The ransom that was paid to free us
was not paid in silver or gold,
but in the precious blood of Christ,
the Lamb without spot or stain.
God raised him from the dead and gave him glory,
so that we might have faith and hope in God.
Give praise to the Father almighty,
to his Son, Jesus Christ, the Lord,

Then the risen Lord said to them, ‘These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that everything written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms must be fulfilled.’ Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures, and he said to them, ‘Thus it is written, that the Messiah is to suffer and to rise from the dead on the third day, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And see, I am sending upon you what my Father promised; so stay here in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.’

We praise you, O God,
we acclaim you as Lord;
all creation worships you,
the Father everlasting.
To you all angels,
all the powers of heaven,
the cherubim and seraphim,
sing in endless praise:
Holy, holy, holy lord,
God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
The glorious company of apostles praise you.
The noble fellowship of prophets praise you.
The white-robed army of martyrs praise you.
Throughout the world the holy Church acclaims you:
Father, of majesty unbounded,
your true and only Son, worthy of all praise,
the Holy Spirit, advocate and guide.
You, Christ, are the king of glory,
the eternal Son of the Father.
When you took our flesh to set us free
you humbly chose the Virgin’s womb.
You overcame the sting of death
and opened the kingdom of heaven to all believers.
You are seated at God’s right hand in glory.
We believe that you will come to be our judge.
Come then, Lord, and help your people,
bought with the price of your own blood,
and bring us with your saints to glory everlasting.
THE LORD'S PRAYER,
thanksgiving, petition, intercession
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever. Amen.

by treading lighter on the earth.

Hail, O beauty of the Father!

O Christ, send down on us
this Spirit with the Father,
that he may sprinkle our souls with
his dew and fill them with his royal gifts. Amen.
May Christ, who out of defeat has brought us hope,
fill us with new life. Amen.
